So, where are these Farmers Markets? There are many located in and around the state but serveral are located right here in Indianapolis. They are open on different days and different times so it should be easy to visit one that fits into your schedule. And, all of them offer about the same fresh fruits and vegetables that are seasonal and easy on the wallet.
Of course, the biggest and most well-known is the downtown City Market. When the City Market, also known as the original farmers market, first opened in 1886, it offered a new and novel experience in grocery shopping. It pioneered the idea of open space shopping for the sale of meats and fresh produce. It wasn’t long fefore the market flourished as a one-stop shopping for produce, meat, fish, cheeses and baked goods. The City Market is located on Market Street between Delaware and Alabama. It’s outdoor market is open May-October on Wednesdays from 9:30-1:30.
